Position Description for School District of La Crosse, La Crosse, Wisconsin

The School District of La Crosse, La Crosse, Wisconsin, Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified Superintendent.  The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2020.

McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.

Enrollment: 6,500

Location: 210 miles northwest of Milwaukee, 150 miles southeast of Minneapolis

The Qualifications

The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics.

• Someone with proven expertise with issues related to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
• A collaborator who has the proven ability to bring people together to build trusting, respectful, and strategic relationships.
• An individual who is a skilled communicator, visible, and who establishes strong working relationships internally and externally.
• Passionate advocate for students, staff and public education.
• Knowledgeable of school finance and how the legislative process affects the future of education.

Search Timeline:

• Closing date for applications:  January 20, 2020 (11:30 p.m. central time)
• Board of Education selects finalists to interview:  February 10, 2020
• Semi-finalists interviews with the Board of Education:  February 29, 2020
• Finalists interviews: March 2-4, 2020
• Selection of new Superintendent: Week of March 2, 2020
• Start date: July 1, 2020
